Another Mallorcan sunny day was beckoning me to set out on my moto in early May 2021. My main goal was to return to Porto Colom, where I had been last August, and re-take videos I messed up because my GoPro camera, mounted on my helmet, was pointed up too high.
Following the route you see on the map below, Port Colom is about 45 miles (75 kms) from Palma.
Unlike many beach communities, PC is not overrun with touristy hotels clinging to the shoreline. Though there are boutique hotels, PC feels more like a regular residential/fishing village that so happens to be positioned on a large cove (or bay) with a smattering of sandy beaches along with an incredible rocky shoreline.
Some months ago, a high school friend of mine (from back in the 1900's) mentioned she and a group of friends had been sailing around Mallorca and stopped in PC. They dined and danced at 'Alegria', a charming restaurant in the old town area. She recommended I check it out. Unfortunately, when I was in PC last August, it was closed during the hours I was there. However, this time they were open so I grabbed the chance to have lunch on the beautiful back patio canopied by an ancient bouganvilla tree.
From there, it was off to Felanitx, a town of about 17,500 built on a knoll (like so many others here) and dotted with old windmill towers.
After Felanitx, the next town you pass through on the way to Palma is Campos. The highway routes you around the perimeter of Campos. I stopped to check out some fantastic animal creations made out of scrap metal, then continued on via MA-19 which has recently been expanded between Llucmajor and Campos from 2 lanes to a 4-lane divided highway.
A quick diversion off the main highway, I drove through the center of Llucmajor....a town of about 9,000 that's been around since the 1200's. Today, it's well-known for shoemaking.
Six hours after I left Palma, I was back home and ready to start editing my videos which, THIS time, were aimed correctly!!!
